Last Chance for Heat Pump Savings!

Preferred Air helps Massachusetts home owners with rebates and tax incentives when upgrading to high efficiency heating and cooling systems.
November 14, 2025

For years, Massachusetts homeowners have used the Mass Save program to make the switch to high-efficiency heat pumps more affordable. With rebates of up to $10,000, these incentives have helped residents improve energy efficiency, reduce fossil fuel use, and enjoy year-round comfort.

Two Key Deadlines Are Approaching

Here’s what homeowners need to know:

  • Mass Save Funding Cut (2026):
Beginning in 2026, the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is reducing Mass Save funding by $500 million. This means rebate amounts will decrease significantly in the near future.

  • Federal Tax Credit Deadline (December 31, 2025):
The federal Section 25C tax credit, which offers up to $2,000 for qualifying heat pump installations, is only available for systems installed by the end of 2025.

A 3-Step Action Plan

If you have been thinking about upgrading your heating and cooling system, now is the most critical time to act before these significant incentives begin to phase out. Heat pumps offer efficient, dependable heating and cooling from a single system, and beginning the process early ensures you won’t miss out on the highest savings available. To lock in the best combination of rebates and federal tax credits before the deadlines:

  1. Schedule Your Home Energy Assessment: This is the essential first step and is typically required by Mass Save to determine your home's needs and project eligibility.

  1. Choose a Qualified Installer: Select a contractor from the Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network (like our team) to guarantee your system meets all rebate and efficiency requirements.

  1. Apply and Install Early: Projects take time, from the initial assessment to ordering equipment, scheduling, and final installation. Start the process now to ensure your system is fully installed and commissioned before the December 31, 2025 tax credit deadline and before Mass Save rebate values decrease.
